Yes, dogs can get sunburned - especially those with light fur or pink skin.

Nose tip, ear tips, belly, areas with sparse fur.

Signs of Sunburn

  • Red inflamed skin
  • Tenderness to touch
  • Peeling or hair loss

Prevention

Use pet-specific sunscreen (human sunscreen with zinc oxide is toxic to dogs). Apply to nose, ears, and belly before outdoor activities.

Long-Term Risk

Repeated sun exposure increases squamous cell carcinoma risk on nose and ears.
