Cat Heat Stroke: Signs, Treatment and Prevention

Cats can overheat in enclosed spaces. Knowing the signs saves lives.

Signs

  • Panting (unusual in cats - take seriously)
  • Drooling
  • Red or pale gums
  • Vomiting, collapse

Emergency Treatment

  1. Move to cool ventilated area
  2. Apply cool water to ears, paws, neck
  3. Offer small amounts of cool water
  4. Call vet immediately

Prevention

  • Never leave in hot rooms or cars
  • Multiple water bowls with fresh cool water
  • Cooling mat in summer
