🔬 Our Data & Editorial Standards

How ForPetsHealthcare researches, writes, and ranks — and the honesty rules we hold ourselves to.

Who writes our content

Articles are written and edited by Julia Wrenfield, our in-house pet-health writer. She is a researcher and writer — not a veterinarian — and our content is clearly informational, never a substitute for a professional diagnosis. For any medical decision we point you to a licensed vet.

Built on real research

Our health guidance is grounded in a library of over 101,000 indexed scientific studies, each linked back to its source on PubMed so you can read the evidence yourself.

How we rank shelters

Our shelter and rescue rankings are scored from tens of thousands of public Google reviews using a transparent, review-weighted method (Bayesian averaging) — so a place with 500 great reviews outranks one with five, and no organisation can pay to move up.

Tools grounded in vet formulas

Our calculators use established veterinary formulas — resting/maintenance energy (RER/MER) for calories, and size-and-species curves for pet age — not myths like multiplying a dog's age by seven.

Our honesty commitment

We never invent statistics, studies, or credentials. We do not claim veterinary review or partnerships we don't have. When the evidence is uncertain, we say so — and we always tell you to consult your vet in an emergency.
